Dear Friends,
Paul said, “Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel” (I Cor.9:14). God has graciously allowed us to live of the gospel for more than 35 years in Brazil. Practically everything we own has come to us through the gifts of God’s people.
As far as preaching the gospel is concerned, during 2013 I had around 350 public speaking opportunities in the classroom, church, youth meetings, funerals, and a couple times at a bus stop and beside of a pond. There were also many opportunities for street evangelism and distribution of gospel tracts.
Rena and I have been on our break from our Bible Institute responsibilities since the end of November when seven students graduated. Some of these have already gone into full-time ministry. One of the young ladies is to be married this month. She and her husband plan to go to Argentina as missionaries when he graduates. Classes will resume on March 3.
The break has allowed us extra time for the restoration ministry in our church where we have served for one year now. This month I have met with both a Christian lawyer and a CPA who are helping us to get the church’s documentation and financial reports in order before the Brazilian government. These important details had been neglected for several years.
Painting and repairs on the church building itself and the parsonage are almost completed. The church people are pleased to have been able to pay for this project and to see their installations looking good again. Since they don’t have to pay me as their pastor, they have been able to invest their resources in the renovation.
In January Rena and I invested significant time in children’s outreach. Some children professed to receive Christ last year and we are seeking to stabilize them spiritually. Most of them come from dysfunctional homes, but we know that “ruined lives are why (Christ) died on Calvary.” Rena was also involved in a five day camp which took place on the campus of the Bible Institute in which 65 adolescents participated.
A couple other projects we hope to finish soon are the production of 3,000 “Wordless Book” key chains. Our church people are committed to helping us prepare the material. “Wordless Book” tracts are being printed to accompany the key chains which are all to be used during the World Cup which Brazil will host beginning in June. Also a tract I published in English a couple years ago on homosexuality is about ready to go to the press here in Portuguese. Pray that God will bless the literature ministry along with the preaching of the gospel for the salvation of many souls this year.
Sincerely in Christ,
Johnny & Rena Nunley
