On December 18th I hosted a tea for the church ladies at our house. Each lady brought some goodies but I made a thing or two. An injured wrist kept me from doing as much as I wanted to. I had fun creating a few decorations. After a devotional about "The 3 Marys", we exchanged gifts. Always lots of fun, of course! What would a party be like without eating? Everything was very yummy! The only drink was tea...about 8 different kinds. And the ladies were fascinated with the little napkin rings that I made, just a little rose stuck into a keychain ring. Here we all are. There's Lucimara, Margarete, Lúcia, Luciana, Daniele, Maria, Tânia, Márcia, Ivone, Lica, Noelí, Vanessa and Lia. A bit crowded at times in our little place but that didn't bother them one bit, they seemed to love the close fellowship! Each lady brought packs of cookies to donate to the nursing home where we have a ministry. We know it won't take long for the 13 lbs of goodies to disappear when they are delivered!

On October 22-25 164 ladies from the Curitiba area churches gathered at this lovely place for a time of spiritual, physical and social refreshing. It was cold and rainy last Saturday but that did not stop 130 women from coming to attend the ladies' meeting of the Curitiba churches (SOPASBRE). It was held at Igreja Batista Vitória, where we attend. Look at all the cars in the church parking lot! It's a beautiful sight. There were ladies from almost all of our sister churches. In spite of the cold weather, a special warmth was there as we sang and fellowshipped together. Look at how everyone is bundled up! Of course, the time of greeting each other helped to warm us, too! The special speaker was our missionary colleague, Ellen Farlow. She gave a wonderful devotional about having our lives strong on the Rock, Jesus Christ. We completed the time together by having some canjica, which is made from corn. In this case it also had sweetened condensed milk and peanuts. Here Marilsa and Lia help to stir the big pots of canjica. Vanessa dips some out for me to taste-test. Oh yes, I'll gladly do that for you...! It was the perfect food to help warm everyone up. Little lembrancinhas which the Vitória ladies made were given to each woman who attended, beautiful little bookmarkers to remember this special event. At each of these meetings (about 3 times per year) a special project is done. This time it was to bring gifts to give to Laura and Giovanna, the young daughters of a pastor in São Paulo, who lost their mother to the swine flu last year. It was so touching to see the table filled to overflowing with gifts from all of these women who have a tender and loving mother's heart. Last weekend I was privileged to speak at two ladies' meetings. On Saturday afternoon the ladies at the Igreja Batista Calvário had their meeting. There were about 21 ladies present. The devotional was about Esther and especially her courage. This is your new blog post. Click here and start typing, or drag in elements from the top bar. There was an exchange of gifts with each lady's "amiga secreta" (secret friend). Lots of hugging and smiling going on! And, of course, it just wouldn't be complete without the goodies! Each lady contributed with a plate of something. I just had to take a picture of this lovely red rose which was just outside the door where we had the meeting. Then on Sunday it was Igreja Batista Vitória's turn... That morning we noticed that most of us seemed to be wearing clothes with various shades of purple and pink. And, no, that was not planned! That evening, before the evening service, most of these ladies (plus a few more) came to the ladies' meeting. Our theme for devotionals during these once-a-month meetings is currently about "A Woman After God's Heart". This time we talked about the importance of loving God's Word. |
