In 2011 Rena and I completed our thirty-third year of missionary service in Brazil. The Lord gave us public ministry opportunities in fifteen different churches. I spoke 124 times which included six Bible conferences, chapel services, VBS and rest home ministry. Rena also accepted various invitations to speak in ladies’ meetings. It was encouraging to see responses for salvation or dedication to the Lord in some of these meetings.
The year’s highlight for us in church ministry in 2011 came in November as we traveled about 1,500 miles to preach at the organization of a church which we started in the town of Santana de Mangueira over twenty-five years ago. We were blessed to see Paulo Cesar, who identifies himself as our son in the faith, leading the church in its organization. We were challenged again as we presented Christ to Nita, a woman in her seventies who has never owned a Bible; to Jorgival, the ex-mayor of the town who asked us what the difference was between Catholics and believers; and to Francisco, an eighty-six-year-old man who said he needs to take care of some important things next year before getting serious with God. We rejoiced that Riqueta, who refused our gospel presentation many times in her youth, is now an active member of the church. And we were glad that Espedito, who had been adrift spiritually for a long time, made reconciliation with the Lord on the last night of the three-night conference.
At the Bible Institute we both served in and outside the classroom. Rena taught English and piano and managed the snack shop. I served as treasurer and Christian service director and had the opportunity to teach approximately 250 classes in the areas of Bible, Missions and Homiletics. The Institute closed out its school year on November 26 with the graduation of

On December 6 we flew across Brazil’s wide expanse, then headed north over a few of Peru’s snow-capped peaks. Sometime later we saw Cuba’s lights far below, then the lights of Miami
where we landed and spent the night. On December 7 we continued our flight and were soon joyfully united with our family at the Greensboro airport in good ole North Carolina. God gave us a wonderful Christmas season together and we now look forward to visiting our thirty-five supporting churches in 2012.
Thank you your financial support, your prayers and for taking time to read this letter. May the Lord help us all to be burning and shining lights for Him throughout the coming year (John 5:35) as we await His return.
Sincerely,
Johnny
