Adriano, a third year student at the Parana Bible Institute in Brazil sent us an e-mail a few days ago. Since getting to know him we have have had the privilege to see God at work in the life of this dedicated, young man in the classroom, at church and on the sidewalk in frontline evangelism. Here are some of his comments about his participation in a recent evangelistic trip to an interior town, plus an interview he had with a Moslem.
“It was incredible how the people in that place were hard, closed and as if they were dead, which was in fact the case. Afterwards we went to the cemetery where you cannot help but stop and think about life. I began to think about many things, for example, that my destiny will be the same if Christ does not return before I die and what shall I have done for God and shall my life have been worth living? I need to do my upmost for God today since I do not know how long I will be able to do this. I also thought about the people of the city because I saw no difference between the cemetery and the streets. It was the same thing. Dead!...At the same time I felt so grateful to God, because I had been dead, but He made me alive.

“On Tuesday, Diego & I went to a mosque to interview a Moslem. For quite some time I had been praying for God to change my heart in relation to them, because I could not love them or have compassion for them. Just thinking about what they do with Christian people made me angry, but I always knew that I shouldn’t be like that and I never had a better opportunity than this for God to change my heart. The Moslem was a very intelligent, educated man with a Master’s degree in the study of religions and other areas. From the beginning he attacked us and when we were talking about sin I asked him how God could save sinners and still be just. He said, Allah is a god of mercy. I responded that God is merciful, but He is also just and somebody has to die. He knew where I was going with this and he cut me off. Diego also tried to evangelize him and got cut off, too. I thought of the cemetery again and perceived how blind the Moslem was, but I also understood that there was no difference between him and me except for the grace of God. I believe that for the first time I felt compassion for a Moslem. It was an unforgettable experience in spite of the fact the he said openly that he was in favor of the extermination of Israel. I thank God that He changed my heart.”
