At Fellowship Baptist in Riner, VA.
Dear Friends,
The Apostle Paul taught us to pray about everything and to also make sure that we include the important ingredient of thanksgiving in our prayers (Philippians 4:6). I’ll try to maintain this sanctified mix as we report to you regarding our current situation.
REQUESTS We have passages in hand to return to Brazil on December 28. Immediate church responsibilities await us as we will fill in for missionary colleagues, Ed & Jan Alexander, who will be in the U.S. for a short furlough. Pray that the Lord will enable us to pack up during the upcoming holiday season and be emotionally prepared to say, “Good-bye” to our loved ones again. Such departures have not gotten easier with age.
Speaking of age, we have been asked a few times during this furlough about retirement. Unless the Lord directs otherwise, we plan to invest a few more years of missionary ministry in Brazil. I am 61 and Rena is a little bit behind me. There is yet much service we hope to render as the Lord gives us life, health and open doors. Pray that the Lord will keep us on the “front lines” of evangelism and that we will be more effective in winning Brazilians to Christ. Pray also that God will bless us with a growing knowledge of His Word and wisdom to powerfully preach it and creatively teach it in church and in the classroom.
THANKSGIVING We give thanks for the privilege to have ministered in twenty-six churches this year, two summer camps and one VBS. Pastors have shared their pulpits, church folks have received us kindly, they have fed us royally and have given generously to help in the work to which we are called.
We give thanks that the recent tract we printed, “God’s Love for LGBT’s,” has been well received in the churches. Several hundreds of them have left our stock and many more are available free of charge. Let us know if you can use some. (The tract can be read on our website listed below. Click on “news”).
We give thanks for the extra time we have had to recharge our spiritual batteries through hearing some fine preaching, attending special conferences and reading some very helpful books.
We give thanks for the opportunities we have had this year to witness to relatives, neighbors, Hispanics, our Brazilian mechanic and to leave a few seeds of gospel literature scattered in different places.
We give thanks for the prospect of having Thanksgiving and another Christmas together with our five children and eight grands.
Most of all we give thanks for salvation in Jesus Christ, for the privilege to be a part of His advancing church which He is building in a hostile world and for the Blessed Hope of His return. May “Thy Kingdom come!”
Sincerely in Christ,
Johnny & Rena Nunley
